Christmas and Goodwill
I don't say a lot on social media about my opinions or politics or things like that. I still will not do that, however I wanted to write a blog about the things that I see in our world and offer encouragement and hope. Today is my first attempt.
*The views expressed are my own and not in any way associated with any organizations etc.
I look around and I hurt for our world. I am sure you understand what I am talking about if you watch the news. Sometimes I don't like to watch the news, there are seldom any good things that are shown.
I also hurt for my friends and family who are going through difficult stuff in their lives. We all have difficulties, but at Christmas these trials seem to be amplified; because we are trying so hard to make everything so perfect for the holidays.
I remember when I was a little girl, there was a song about Christmas that mentioned that we only hear about Peace and goodwill at Christmas- One line of the song says "With all the lonely people all around it seems like such bad timing." There is truth there, but in actuality, I think it would not matter when Christmas was/is because there will always be people all around us who are hurting.
Whether intentional or not, people are more giving, more caring, and seem to be more loving at Christmas; all the food and toy drives are evidence of that.
Hope is an expectation of good things to come. It seems that Christmas brings a renewed sense of hope into our lives, because we look forward in anticipation of the new year.
We cannot solve all the problems of our hurting world, but perhaps today you can make a difference in the lives of people around you- maybe by just being a friend, or smiling at someone on the street can be enough to bring Hope into the life of that person. Christmas is a great time to start and to carry that spirit of goodwill all throughout the year!
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Melanie
